Woodson Class of 2021

Published Spring 2026

What's your favorite Woodson Chorus memory?

I feel lucky to say I have lots of amazing memories from Woodson High School choir, and could write for hours about my time there. But if I had to choose one memory that stands out from the rest, it would actually be one that does not involve any singing.

I LOVED tag day when I was in high school. Being able to spend time with my peers and have fun apart from music built relationships in the classroom that made making music together much easier. I would say the choir class was as amazing as it was because of the friendships and love we had for each other.

What role has music played in your life since high school?

Music has played a huge part in my life since high school because I went to college for music. I am about to graduate from JMU with a bachelor's degree in music education, so I have been singing ever since I left Woodson. At JMU, I took classes where I got to play lots of different instruments, sing, conduct, and more. As I graduate, I am transitioning to a choral teaching job in Northern VA, where music will continue to play a significant role in my life! On top of choral music at JMU, I also was the music director and a member of an acapella group called "Exit 245" that would perform around campus and all over VA.

What are you up to now?

I am currently student teaching as part of my requirements to graduate from JMU in May. Next fall, I will be starting my teaching career at a middle school in Prince William County, VA. As part of my student teaching assignments, I have spent time in 1 middle school and 2 high schools, learning to teach and getting prepared for next year!

What advice would you give to current Woodson Choristers?

My advice to current Woodson Choristers is to keep singing! Singing is super fun, and an amazing and unique way of connecting with people. There is literally nothing in the world that feels the same way as standing in a group of people and making beautiful music. Music is not something that you have to stop loving because you aren't doing it in school anymore (also there will almost always be a choir at your school that you can join!) - there are plenty of opportunities anywhere you go to sing. Put yourself out there and find a place to celebrate your love for music.
