Woodson Class of 2018

Published Fall 2025

What's your favorite Woodson Chorus memory?

My favorite Woodson Chorus memory was singing Morten Lauridsen’s “Sure on this Shining Night”. That still remains to be one of the performances (and the rehearsals leading up to them) that I remember really well. I always loved Lauridsen’s music so that was such a great moment for me to get to sing one of his most popular works.

What role has music played in your life since high school?

Music has always, and continues to be a place that both comforts and challenges me. I am constantly learning how to become a better singer through participation in choirs at the collegiate and adult/community level. Making the choice to stay involved in music after high school is the greatest gift I have given to myself.

What are you up to now?

I am in my fourth year of teaching elementary music in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. I teach general music, chorus, and orchestra at Monarch Academy Glen Burnie and love all 441 of my students! I sing in the Chesapeake Chorale and will be starting grad school at Goucher College in their “At-Promise and Diverse Youth” MEd Program. I am an avid reader and crafter and have found the best balance between thriving professionally while also maintaining my personal life.

What advice would you give to current Woodson Choristers?

Be yourself and enjoy where you are at. High school moves quickly and before you know it the community that you know and love is scattered all around. Lean into the love of music that everyone around you shares to create beautiful music. In a world where computers can do almost anything, our voices are the one thing I think we still hold on to. Be kind to each other. Smile at each other. Embrace each other’s weirdness and quirks. Don’t be afraid to tell the person next to you that you are glad to be singing with them.
